Adjustments

A chiropractic Adjustment is a specific and gentle pressure applied in a precise direction helping with joint alignment and movement.  Bones in the spine that become out of alignment and do not move properly irritate and choke the surrounding delicate nerve which can be the cause of pain and other symptoms or can be unnoticed depending on the amount of irritation.

IMG_7284Adjustments help return bones to the correct position, allow better joint motion, and restore the body’s ability to heal.  The adjustment ‘frees’ not forces a bone to allow it to realign and move again.

Chiropractic adjustments can be performed in many different positions: sitting, standing, lying down on the stomach and the back.  The kind of adjustment used is relative to the age, size, and weight of the individual. A chiropractic adjustment is most commonly done as a hands-on-approach but can also be performed with special instruments and tables to assist and create the desired pressure to move a bone into alignment and free up the joint eliminating nerve pressure.

Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to be safe and effective for all ages. So safe even newborns and children receive adjustments to repair damage caused from the birth process, learning to walk or other childhood traumas such as falls.

The most important thing before being adjusted is to be relaxed.  If you are tense, holding on, and resisting I will find another method or position to help you to be more at ease.  The goal is to get the job done with the least amount of stress for both of us. My training and experience has allowed me to become skilled and comfortable to deliver a variety of ways to adjust the spine.

When a chiropractic adjustment occurs sometimes there is a sound. People call it all sorts of names; cracking, grinding, popping.  This is a response to the amount of pressure your body built up in the joint probably as a result of the nerve pressure.  The sound does not mean an adjustment occurred or a bone went ‘into or out’ of place.  It simply means joint pressure was released by the chiropractic adjustment.  The most important thing isn’t the release of joint pressure but to relieve the nerve pressure. I am not looking for the sound but should it happen not to be alarmed.

Chiropractic adjustments have the following benefits:

  1. Improve nerve flow (the weight of a dime on a nerve is enough to slow the sending of messages)
  2. Increase pain tolerance by increasing good chemicals such as endorphins
  3. Restore movement to joints that are stiffened
  4. Reduce muscular tension
  5. Improve the immune system protecting the body

As you can see there is a lot that goes into getting the right kind of chiropractic adjustment by the right chiropractor to get the right results.  In most cases a bad experience with a medical doctor most people will try another medical doctor.  Not so with a chiropractor; a bad experience will usually mean that person will lose out on all the benefits chiropractic has to offer because they are trying chiropractic.  I want you to know if you are one of those people I am here for you too.  I want to make things right so you can get the help you are looking for.  I have been adjusted by many chiropractors. My goal is to make this a pleasant and effective experience where you can know you are safe and cared for properly.  In other words I wouldn’t do anything I wouldn’t have done on myself.  I will take every precaution and be assured I will explain everything I do before I do it on you.  There will be no surprises.
